Thermal Scans

’ve been interested in thermal conductivity and microclimates in areas across the West and South Sides of Chicago, more specifically North Lawndale. This project focuses on areas where people gather and explores how tree canopies could create localized microclimates. It combines social practice with environmental investigation, using thermal scans to study the relationship between infrastructure, vegetation, and community.

I found the scans visually compelling and obscured their silhouettes to create a more convoluted, abstracted appearance. I used Grasshopper, Rhino, Blender, and pencil-and-paper urban planning drawings to develop the project.
